Privacy
Very little is collected, nothing that identifies you, and there are no cookies, ads or tracking.
Who this is
turpin.studio and the Sequent apps are made by Dean Turpin, in the UK. This covers the website, Sequent.app for Mac and Linux, and the Sequent app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Questions to hello@turpin.dev.
The website
- No accounts, no cookies. Nothing asks who you are.
- Your settings stay in your browser: patches, tempo, the links you've shared. They're in its own storage, never sent anywhere, and clearing the site's data removes them.
- Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't follow you between sites. It sees which page was opened, not where you came from: the site sends no referrer.
- Sharing a piece stores the piece itself so the link opens it, with the day it was made, the country Cloudflare reports, and the browser, system and kind of device, with version numbers cut short. Not your IP address. A share nobody opens for a year is deleted.
- Downloads are counted by day and file, with the same country, browser, system and kind of device. Not your IP address.
- The microphone and MIDI, when you allow them, are used in your browser and never recorded or sent anywhere. A recording you make is saved to your own computer.
- The site checks GitHub for the latest Sequent.app, so GitHub sees that request.
Sequent.app for Mac and Linux
It listens to your CDJs on the local network and passes what they say to the web page on the same computer; nothing else can connect to it. Its only request outside your network is checking GitHub for a new version. It collects nothing.
Sequent for iPhone, iPad and Mac
It asks for local network access to hear your CDJs, and collects nothing: no analytics, no accounts, nothing sent to us. Its debug reports and captures of the network stay on your device until you choose to share them, and go only where you send them. If you test it through TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports and any feedback you send with us, as their privacy policy describes.
Talking to us
If you message on WhatsApp or email, we see what you send and your number or address, use them only to reply, and don't pass them on. WhatsApp is run by Meta, under its own policy.
Who handles it
The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles every request to deliver it and keeps the shares and counts above. Apple delivers the iPhone app. Neither gets anything from us beyond that.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Since almost nothing is tied to a person, there's usually nothing to find, but ask at hello@turpin.dev and you'll get an answer. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk.
Changes
If any of this changes (recordings kept online, which the plans include, would be one) this page will say so before it happens.
