SEQUENT

Instruments that follow the DJ

Sequent is a free online sequencer that syncs to your CDJs, a DJ mixer's MIDI clock or your DAW, so what you play stays in time with what's playing. Every instrument is a track under one transport and one key: a 303 acid line, 909-style drums, an acoustic drummer, a shaker, handbells, bass, pads, strings, piano, an oud and a vocoder, all in your browser. Press Play, and open a track to play with it.

KickThe bass drum, with its own patterns and presets. Part of the 909-style kit; every group takes the kit's presets.
SnareThe snare and the hand clap. Part of the 909-style kit; every group takes the kit's presets.
HatsThe closed and open hats; the closed chokes the open. Part of the 909-style kit; every group takes the kit's presets.
ShakerA shaker played by hand: egg, maracas, cabasa, tube or tambourine, in rhythms from house sixteenths to samba, forward and back.
HandbellsHandbells: a struck metal bell playing a riff in the key and on the chords, after the bells on Unfinished Sympathy: a hard, clunky strike, a glassy ring that dies fast, and an old sampler's grit.
RimThe rim shot, made for throwing into the echo. Part of the 909-style kit; every group takes the kit's presets.
PercThe toms, crash and ride. Part of the 909-style kit; every group takes the kit's presets.
DrummerAn acoustic kit played by a person: rock, funk, breaks, disco and dub grooves, with ghost notes and a fill into each phrase.
BassThe bassline: rolling roots, octaves and fifths, or a proper riff (one drop, dub, steppers, walking, funk), following the chords, with filter, sweep, sub, drive and pump.
SubA sub bass: a very low pulse every bar on the root of the chord, fading away, under everything.
303The acid bass line, in the style of Roland's TB-303, with a pitch knob per step. It locks to MIDI clock from your mixer or DAW.
ClavDeep Chicago chord stabs: one triad from your key, stabbed in rhythm, with chorus and a sub under it.
SwellA big pad to fill the room between songs: a chord progression in your key, swelling in time, with arpeggiator, reverb and delay.
StringsLong sweeping strings: a section holding the chords, each voice gliding to the next, with bowed swells, vibrato and a slow sweep of brightness.
PianoA piano playing the chords: whole-note chords, chords over a pedal note, or an arpeggio, each chord voiced near the last.
OudAn Arabian oud: mostly a drone on your tonic, with now and then an improvised riff in the maqam, quarter tones and all.
VocoderA robot choir: a built-in voice sings vowels in time, and a vocoder lays them over a synth playing the chords, so the chords come out sung.
BloomRain, waves, wind or your own recordings, looped seamlessly and carved with an EQ to sit under a DJ mix.
MasterEverything passes through here on the way out: a parametric EQ drawn over the spectrum, and the master volume, to tune Sequent to the mix.
